An Interview with a Care Giving Specialist Reveals the Importance of Accurate Records

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 29, 2009 – Ann Arbor, MI – Rebecca Colmer, a professional caregiver and Certified Senior Advisor was recently interviewed.  She discussed the importance of accurate record keeping by the caregivers.  “In the beginning there may only be a few needs like transportation, shopping and housekeeping; however, over time, needs increase, requiring additional services and an extended staff of providers,” explained Comer.  “Eventually, the care-receiver may become fully dependent on the caregiver.”
When asked about the challenges faced by caregivers, Rebecca said, “The role of caregiving is often unexpected and comes at a time when you are least prepared.  Challenges include the increasing cost of care for adults who are living longer today.  Given the current economic conditions, financial difficulties are on the rise and aging adults are unable to remain independent in their homes.”
According to Rebecca Colmer every caregiver should keep accurate records on a daily basis to provide critical information to everyone on the caregiving team.  “Daily records become a reference tool to be reviewed as needs and conditions change,” said Rebecca.  “Daily records allow you to reassess the needs of your loved on to ensure better health care.”
Rebecca made some good points as she discussed the reasons for keeping accurate records, “Caregiving records help save time and money, reducing the cost of doctor’s visits by keeping trusted members of the care team up to date about the recipient’s condition.  Care giving is a stressful chore; staying organized helps to reduce the stress and allows other caregivers to step in and help.  Our online organizer makes it easy to share information with trusted friends and family members.  It helps to share the schedule of tasks and responsibilities to manage the workload.”
